Tam (Banker) was a Master Carpenter and had his workshop at the gable of the house. As well as general carpentry he also made coffins. At that time coffins were made of bare wood without any lining but in later years a plain cloth lining was included. Tam learned his trade with Housebuilders, William and John McBride, Gortin, Ballyare, Ramelton. The McBrides renovated Sheridan's House at Saltpans, Rathmullan and Tam was the carpenter. The stairs which he made and fitted, as seen in this picture, are still in use in Sheridans house more than 100 years later. During the renovations the workmen lodged with the Sheridans who devoutly recited fifteen decades of the Rosary every night. Traditionally this very long version of the Rosary would be said only on all-souls night.
