Maggie Kate McElwee 1916-1985
Father: John McElwee (1871 -1932) Dargan, Portsalon, son of Charles & Hannah (Sweeney) McElwee.
Mother: Kate McGowan(1886 -1958) Creeve, Rathmullan. daughter of Thomas & Mary (Murray, Barnes, Termon) McGowan.
Thomas worked as a Deer stalker on Glenveigh estate. The McGowans lived in County Leitrim but after her husband died, their mother & four sons were evicted and came to Donegal to work. One of the sons worked as a cook for the Batt family at Rathmullan House.

Due to her mother taking ill, Maggie Kate was reared by her aunt, Margaret Sheridan (nee McGowan, born 1879) & William (Owen-Rosha) Sheridan, Lower Drumhallagh and attended Killycolman School.
When saying "the Rosary " on stormy nights, William (Owen Rosha) always prayed for "the Sailors at Sea." Maggie Kate carried on this tradition in our family. ("Oh hear us when we cry to thee, for those in peril on the sea").
William Owen Rosha's sister Bridget married Denis Gallagher(Boatie) and died 1873 from fever aged 31 years.
